SWEPCO 718 Fire Resistant Hydraulic Oil is a high performance hydraulic oil which has been formulated with a minimum tendency to ignite when exposed to open flame.

SWEPCO 718 is an "invert" emulsion. It represents an advancement over conventional emulsions because it is a "water in oil" formulation, utilizing approximately 40% water. This invert chemistry results in water droplets surrounded by oil, an approach to hydraulic oil formulation which yields superior lubricity when compared to conventional emulsions. Conventional "oil in water" emulsions (sometimes refered to as high water base fluids or HWBF fluids) utilize as much as 90-95 % water, producing an oil droplet surrounded by water. Because of their limited performance, standard emulsion type hydraulic oils are suitable only for lighter duty applications which don't require significant lubricity or anti-wear properties.
